 About the Partner Organisation

The National Referral Hospital (NRH), based in Honiara, is operated by the Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and serves the health of Solomon Islanders by functioning as the main tertiary and referral hospital for people living across the country. There are 300+ inpatient beds and specialties include: •General medicine •Surgery (including orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, urology) •Pediatrics •Obstetrics and Gynecology •Psychiatry and •Emergency medicine. The NRH also provides laboratory, pathology, radiology and pharmacy services to support the clinical areas. Post-graduate qualifications in critical-care or intensive care nursing are not offered in the Solomon Islands National University.

The High Dependency Unit, that supports care of critically ill patients in the hospital, has an ongoing need to improve skills, knowledge, practices and processes through ongoing structured clinical education activities. Having a dedicated volunteer specialist in critical care nurse education, will allow the department to offer a greater level of care into the future.
