We’re looking for a Diesel Mechanic Trainer who can live and volunteer for 18 months in Vanuatu


  • This assignment seeks to train and upskills local mechanics, implement long-term heavy plant maintenance strategy, and identify system improvements and implement. 
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a certificate or experience in with caterpillar plant, advanced knowledge a vehicle, its electrical systems and mechanism of a diesel engine, components and operational mechanism, superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment, and comfortable using mechanical and electrical tools 
  • You will be working alongside the managers of workshop, principal officer of store and spare parts, and mechanics for this assignment. 


About the Partner Organisation 


Public Works Department (PWD) is part of the Ministry of Infrastructure & Public Utilities (MIPU) and is responsible for maintaining and improving the national road network. PWD has offices in the six provinces including workshops and plant and equipment for maintaining and constructing roads. Most of the road network is maintained by the private sector, however PWD has a fleet of plant with operators and maintenance crews to maintain and construct minor road projects as directed by the PWD Director and Senior Managers.


The Volunteer will base in the department's headquarters in Port Vila where their focus will be but may from time to time be required to accompany staff travelling to the other provincial offices for training and specific support.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
