We’re looking for a Digital Archivist Mentorwho can live and volunteer for between 6 to 12 months in the Solomon Islands.

  • This assignment seeks to support the team to successfully digitally archive important materials to ensure the longevity of the information for the country.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need Bachelor or Master’s degree in library science, archival studies, or a related field as well as a familiarity with metadata, cataloging, and database management.
  • You will be working alongside the team to develop systems, processes and procedures to facilitate the archiving at NASI.

About the Partner Organisation

The National Archives of Solomon Islands (NASI), based in Honiara, is responsible for preserving and providing access to records of the Solomon Islands government and other organisations. One of their important functions is to provide and maintain an access and reference service whereby the government and the general public may have access to the archival materials held in its custody.

NASI has been preserving governmental records of written documents, printed papers, road maps, recordings, books, reports etc in their original form. There is a risk that these documents could be lost or destroyed and believe this issue can be addressed through digitisation. There are currently no experienced achivists with extensive knowledge of digitisation of records available in the Solomons and a volunteer would be utilised to facilitate the training and upskilling of current archivists.
