About the Partner Organisation
The Kiribati School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Sciences (KSONMHS), based in Tarawa, Kiribati, is a key training provider for individuals pursuing careers in the health industry in Kiribati. It offers programs for nurses, midwives, and nurses aides. Currently, the Faculty of Nursing provides an Advanced Diploma of Nursing, under the EQAP, SPC framework, created in collaboration with nurse educator consultants from the Waikato Institute of Technology (WINTEC) and James Cook University. It also offers a Post Graduate Diploma of Midwifery, a Level 8 program designed to train registered nurses with five or more years of experience, focusing on maternal and neonatal health care.
This assignment is important to build the capacity of the School in implementing the English Speaking and English as the Language of Instruction Policies. Over the past 10 years, the School has developed an English Language program that had built the capacity of our local nursing lecturers, and supported them to work with international lecturers. This volunteer role will enable all staff, regardless of roles, to share and embrace a culture of speaking English as a norm.
