We’re looking for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Trainer who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online and in-country) for a total of 8 months.


  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need Bachelors degreee in Meteorology, Bachelor of Science in Geography, Computer Science or other relevant field
  • You will be working alongside Meteorolgical officers to develop vulnerability mapping for early risk warning as well as mentoring to upskill officer's knowledge in GIS.
  • Work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through strengthening impact-based forecasting using GIS, hazard mapping, and staff capacity building in the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services

About the Partner Organisation 

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services is a division under the Ministry of Enviroment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology that is responsible in ensuring effective and proper adminstration of Meteorolgical Services to support economic development and the national interest of Solomon Islands to deal with other Meteorological related matters.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include obtaining First Aid Certificate.
