- We’re looking for an Intensive Care Unit Nurse Educator who can live and volunteer for 9 months in Papua New Guinea.
- This assignment seeks to support ICU team integrate evidence-based practices into their daily routines, fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement in the ICU.
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent qualification. Advanced degrees such as a Master’s in Nursing or specialized certifications in critical care nursing are highly desirable
- As a volunteer, you will assist in the creation and dissemination of educational materials and resources that support the ongoing professional development of ICU nurses, particularly in areas related to research and clinical audits.
- About the Partner Organisation
- Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU) Hospital, located in Lae, Papua New Guinea, is a major healthcare facility serving the Sepik, Madang, and Morobe provinces. It provides inpatient and specialist medical services and is named after an Australian Army unit that managed the civil administration of the Territory of Papua and New Guinea.
- In June 2019, the Morobe Provincial Health Authority (MoPHA) was established, merging ANGAU's hospital system with provincial rural health services. Under the "One System Tasol" initiative, MoPHA aims to transform healthcare delivery in Morobe Province by implementing sustainable, efficient, and community-focused practices.
- The ICU nursing team at ANGAU has shown a strong interest in engaging in quality improvement initiatives, such as conducting clinical audits and participating in research projects. However, they are constrained by a significant shortage of staff, which prevents them from taking on these additional responsibilities alongside their regular duties. Furthermore, many nurses lack the necessary experience and confidence to independently carry out clinical audits and research, making it difficult for them to fully participate in these activities.

Requirements
- All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
- A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
- A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
