We’re looking for a Laboratory Haematologist (provide technical expertise, teaching and mentoring) who can volunteer in Bhutan for 6 months. Join the Australian Volunteers Program to contribute to sustainable development across Bhutan.
About the Partner Organisation:
JDWNRH's (Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Nation Referral Hospital) vision is to be a centre of excellence in the provision of health care services and medical education. The hospital aims to provide quality health care which is safe, efficient, equitable and sustainable. The hospital strives to strengthen diagnostic and curative healthcare services and the Department of Laboratory Medicine forms a major part of this objective. The hematology section falls under the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The Hematology Laboratory Unit functions as the apex laboratory in the country. It serves as a referral centre for all other hematology laboratories in the country for confirmation of various hematological disorders. It is an advance and high quality laboratory which provides a 24 hr service with accurate and precise laboratory investigations. There are also anatomical pathologists within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine that have not received formal and comprehensive training in hematology. An Australian Volunteer would greatly benefit the unit in furthering quality of service and their technical support would help with capacity building in hematology as well as assisting patients suffering from haematological abnormalities and malignancies.
About the Position:
- You’ll be working closely with local staff and ensuring they are trained in haematology that will allow them to continue with the work in the future.
- You’ll need to be a board certified haematologist
- You’ll gain the chance to share your skills to benefit vulnerable members of the community in Bhutan
Volunteers are supported throughout their volunteer journey. We actively support and encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to volunteer and aim to make the program as accessible and inclusive as possible.
