Yayasan Besi Pae is looking for a Nature Conservation Project Mentor who can volunteer in a hybrid role both in-country for 6 months and then remotely for 6 months (online)


  • This assignment seeks to assist and guide Besi Pae to complete all compliance requirements to achieve Gold Standard Afforestation certification in the target district. The volunteer will mentor the team to draft project design documents, communicate with certification agencies, establish monitoring sites and monitor plant growth.
  • The volunteer will undertake site visits to understand local context and meet the indigenous communities to develop reflections and recommendation. The volunteer will also help the organisation's staff on how to properly discuss and request for authorisation and related documents to government officials and stakeholders.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a degree in environment, agriculture, science, or climate change, and have 3-5 years experience in carbon and biodiversity project.

About the Partner Organisation 

Yayasan Besi Pae was established in 2015, and is based in Kupang. The organisation has implemented a number of activities in Timor Tengah Selatan (TTS) to help improve health and livelihoods in TTS.  Between 2016 to 2018, Besi Pae has worked with TNP2K to provide electricity to the poor. The Yayasan has partnered with Springfields Group to implement a DFAT Australian Development Accelerator (ADA) grant. The NGO is currently implementing a climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation project with support from UNDP in eight villages on the South Coast of TTS. The biodiversity component of the project is protecting critically endangered biodiversity through strengthening the existing traditional right to managing their resources and being compensated through biodiversity credits to implement conservation programs.

There are two allowances for a hybrid assignment.

The allowance for the in-country phase is AUD$ 1,111 per month, the allowance for the remote phase is AUD$ 79 per month.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
