We’re looking for an On-Site Intensivist Trainer who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Samoa.

  • This assignment seeks to provide trainings for doctors, particularly for those undergoing training (ICU & Anesthesia) thru FNU.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need to be a Qualified Intensivist; fellow of the College of Intensive Care of Medicine, at least 5-10 years of experience
  • You will be working alongside 7 members of the team

About the Partner Organisation 

Ministry of Health Samoa - under the Anesthesia and ICU Department at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital.

MOH Samoa's mission is to provide safe and efficient patient centered health care services with the aim of assisting people to meet their health needs for an optimum level of health and well-being. The Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital (TTMH) in Apia is the national referral hospital for Samoa and houses a 7 bed intensive care unit that manages critically ill patients and do invasive ventilation, invasive procedures (central venous lines, arterial lines) and acute hemodialysis.


This volunteer assignment is important to the Ministry of Health and Samoa to build up the capacity of our department to become intensive care specialists. We are seeking intensive care specialist(s) to volunteer on-site for six months to 1 year over a two year period to support training and teaching our doctors/ICU and Anesthesia trainees and nursing staff. At the completion of the 2 year program, we aim to have 2 Samoan Anesthetists trained in Intensive Care Medicine through Fiji National University.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
