We’re looking for a Senior Veterinarian Mentorwho canlive and volunteer for 9 months in the Solomon Islands.

  • This assignment seeks to build Ministry capacity in systems and facilities for animal health. The volunteer would also support strategic and operational functions within the Ministry.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent and knowledge of working with livestock.
  • Provide support which is crucial for the future of agricultural development in the Solomon Islands.

About the Partner Organisation

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) is a key government ministry responsible for formulating, executing, monitoring and coordinating the Solomon Islands Government's (SIG) agricultural policies. Their mission is to promote, improve and lead agricultural development in the Solomon Islands to a profitable and environmentally sustainable future by being the premier provider of information, research, extensions, education, regulations, and other services to improve the agriculture sector.

The volunteer assignment is crucial for the future of agricultural development in Solomon Islands. The absence of a qualified vet in the Ministry impedes agricultural development and the capacity development of livestock and quarantine officers and limits the quality of training and advice provided by extension and information officers for smallholder farmers. This role is very important to ensure continued support and capacity development of staff of the Livestock department.
