We’re looking for a Strategic Urban Planner who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online and in-country in Fiji (Labasa) for a total of 12 months.
- This assignment seeks to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the Labasa Town Council’s 10-Year Strategic Plan by 2026 through policy alignment, stakeholder engagement, and measurable sustainability targets.
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need Masters or Bachelor of Urban Planning or Regional Development Planning and as well as practical experience in urban/town/regional planning with a focus on strategic planning in local government
- Provide support in building institutional capacities for SDG action through reciprocal knowledge exchange and developing a national local government training programme

UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) based in Fiji plays a key role in promoting sustainable development and regional cooperation across the Pacific. It works closely with member countries, including Fiji, to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through policy advice, capacity building, and technical assistance. UNESCAP’s Fiji office focuses on advancing regional initiatives in areas such as climate change, urban development, and disaster resilience.

There are two allowances for a hybrid assignment.
The allowance for the in-country phase is AUD$ 2,516 per month, the allowance for the remote phase is AUD$79 per month.

Requirements
- All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
- A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
- A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
Additional requirements for this assignment include obtaining First Aid Certificate (HTLAID011)
