We’re looking for an Urban Planner who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online) and in-country for a total of 12 months.

  • This assignment seeks to formulate the methodology to prepare an Integrated Development Plan (IUDP) which will directly guide the sustainable environmental, economic and urban development.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need Masters or Bachelor of Urban Planning or Regional Development Planning or professional qualification of a commensurate level or higher level.
  • As a volunteer, you will prepare a project plan, engagement plan and, together with the team, identify major issues based on the completed baseline study, review of available reports/data/information and consultation with related stakeholders.

About the Partner Organisation

Tansen Municipality was established in March 1951 and is located in the Palpa district of Lumbini Province. It is located in the hills of western Nepal. Tansen is renowned as one of the ancient cities of Nepal. There are significant historical and cultural heritage resources and the area has multicultural, multilingual ethnic diversity and a sound level of social harmony. Tansen Municipality does not currently have the expertise related to preparing an Integrated Urban Development Plan. The municipality seeks the support of an experienced Australian Urban Planner volunteer to create awareness and knowledge and support to prepare the IUDP. All policy makers and municipal executives need to understand what integrated urban development is and the formation of the IUDP is an opportunity to increase this understanding. The urban planner will work with the municipal executives and planning sections and transfer knowledge and skills contributing to urban planning. Local persons may have a good understanding of the community and its needs however, an experienced urban planner brings essential expertise, strategic vision, and specialised skills that are crucial for fulfilling the organisation's objectives effectively.
