Pride Guides
Each country has a unique history and context for LGBTQIA+ people. Our Pride Guides provide an introduction to this context in each country the program operates.
The Australian Volunteers Program strives to provide a safe, supportive and equitable environment for LGBTQIA+ volunteers, approved accompanying dependents, partner organisations and all program staff. We have supported volunteers with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) in all program countries, and have ongoing connections with community organisations in almost every country we work in.
Diverse SOGIESC program participants must be aware of the country context before undertaking an assignment. The country-specific guides below are created to introduce some key issues related to people with diverse SOGISEC and their participation in the program.
Please note that the most recent Pride Guides were created in 2023. These documents intend to be a starting point for volunteers to learn more about LGBTQIA+ experiences in different countries. Volunteers are responsible for continuing their own research and discussions with appropriate program staff.
