Celebrating Hope in Action

This International Volunteer Day, we are celebrating the valuable contribution made by Australian volunteers and their partner organisations to locally led development.

Australian volunteers and local partners don’t just hope for a better world – they actively contribute to creating one. This International Volunteer Day, we're celebrating the Australian volunteers who contribute to locally led development across the Pacific, Asia and Africa.

International Volunteer Day is held each year on 5 December, giving us an opportunity to celebrate and share the contributions of volunteers around the world.

We all hope for a better world: a world free from the challenges and suffering humanity is faced with today, a world where all life on our planet not just survives, but thrives, and a world where we work together in mutually beneficial partnerships toward a brighter future for all.

For volunteers and our partner organisations, a better world is not just something hoped for – but something they are actively shaping.

This year, join us to celebrate the power of ‘Hope in Action’ through volunteering.

The Australian Volunteers Program is proud to pay tribute to volunteers globally who support organisations working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

So, what does hope in action look like?

Across the Pacific, Asia and Africa, Australian volunteers and our partners shared with us what they hope for and how they are working together to achieve their development goals.

We invite you to celebrate with us and be inspired by 'Hope in Action' of our volunteers and partners:

We extend a wholehearted thank you to more than one billion people globally who are volunteering for solidarity, humanity, people and the planet, by putting their hope into action.
