The application process

Understand the process for applying for an in-country volunteering role including eligibility and what is required to submit an application

Eligibility

Program volunteers must be Australian citizens or holders of a Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). Refer to the Passports, Visas, and Work Permits section of the Volunteer Guidebook for detailed considerations.

Do your research

Familiarise yourself with the position description for the assignment you're interested in and get acquainted with the partner organisation and the work they do.

Research the country and local area, considering the climate and culture and other factors that may impact your experience living in the region as a volunteer. Our country pages provide a starting point.

Gather the information you need for your application

You will need:

  • A copy of your current passport (with six blank pages)
  • Your resume
  • Qualification details
  • Details of dependants (partners or children) who may join you on assignment (for assignments where approved dependants are permitted)

Apply

  • Click on Apply Now for the assignment you are interested in. If you have an account, log in. If you don't have an account, create one to continue to apply.
  • Add your details and documents.
  • Submit your application before the close date.

Allowances and reimbursements

Allowances are paid during your assignment to support your living and accommodation costs.
